In Grade 6 Social Studies, students learn about basic geography skills, land, and people. They explore the world’s regions through the Five Themes of Geography, which include location (both absolute and relative), place (physical and human characteristics), human/environment interaction (relationships within places), movement (mobility of people, goods, and ideas), and region (formation and change).
Students also study the physical and cultural features of different regions, including their climate, resources, and traditions.
Throughout the course, students develop their map skills by learning how to read and interpret different types of maps, such as political, physical, and thematic maps. They also learn about different types of landforms, including mountains, valleys, rivers, and deserts, and how they are formed. Students also explore the impact of human activities on the environment and learn about sustainable practices to protect our planet.
